Annie Pring Marten’s watercolours depicted life on Branscombe Plantation on the southern side of the Pioneer River (Mackay) where she lived during the 1870s. This miniature shows the entrance to Pleystowe Station–a then working mill, framed by a field of sugar cane. Almost 150 years on, Pring Marten's watercolours are important visual legacies that capture Mackay’s lasting settler identity as a sugar town.
