Karla Dickens’s practice is informed from a deeply personal place. Healing is a recurring theme she explores, building up layers, textures and history. This assemblage is created from found objects which, for the artist, are representative of the history of her own personal struggles and that of Indigenous peoples since colonisation. Through salvaging the discarded, the items she finds are given a new life, creating a dialogue about the struggles of her people whilst also symbolising the hope she holds for the future.
