Interpretive text
Internationally acclaimed artists Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan visited Mackay over several months in 2019 to create a large-scale site specific installation in the galley.
In Mackay over 1000 people took part in workshops creating small sculptures representing ‘home’ in recycled cardboard. These were the building blocks for the artists’ final work.
A legacy of this project, ‘Fragments’, pictured comprises of flattened and reassembled sculptural pieces from their 2019 project. See this artwork in ‘Collaged’ currently on display in the foyer gallery.
