Interpretive text
Jazmina Cininas is a Melbourne-based artist of Lithuanian heritage. She has a PhD from RMIT and lectures in the university’s printmaking department. Her doctoral project, ‘Girlie Werewolf Project’ has been exhibited nationally and in the Baltic States. She has undertaken residencies in Australia and Lithuania. Her work is held by the National Gallery of Victoria, National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia and several regional galleries across Australia.

Cininas uses Farmi brand milk cartons sourced from Estonia. Inspired by the carton’s slogan, ‘Aitäh, et armastad Eesti piima’ (thank you for loving Estonian milk), Cininas has cut up the brightly designed carton and reassembled the pieces into the style of traditional Baltic jewellery—an item one might gift to their beloved. The “jewels” are threaded together and hang from a stab-bound book that unfolds into a deep standing screen.
