Ana Paula Estrada is a Mexican-born, Brisbane based artist who was undertaking a PHD at Queensland Collage of the Arts, Griffith University whilst producing this artwork. In zine form, 'I am here' continues Estrada’s investigation into memory and connection via art. In the 2022 Libris Awards this work was was awarded winner of Category 3, Artspace Mackay Foundation Tertiary Artists’ Book Award, judged by Adele Outteridge and Brian Robinson.

Of the work Estrada writes,”My art practice explores issues surrounding the notions of language, translation, and storytelling, and investigates how creative approaches and the artist book can contribute critically to care practices in aged care. I am here is a periodical artist book that aims to facilitate dialogue and connectedness between aged-care residents and the rest of the community. Issue One, The flowers in her room, features conversations between myself and Esta Ziviani, which took place in Esta’s care facility in Brisbane during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.”

Estrada has exhibited in Australia and internationally including Mexico, the United States and The Netherlands. Her work is held in the State Library of Queensland, National Library of Australia and Centro de la Imagen (Mexico).
