Interpretive text
Jonathan McBurnie and Christian Flynn are two mid-career Australian artists who were based in Brisbane during the period this work was created. McBurnie is now Rockhampton based, known best for his large scale wall based works on paper installations of reproduced collaged pop art imagery as ink and watercolour drawings. Flynn's fine art practice combines his interest in science-fiction with abstract and non-objective picture making.

This work was created by the artist for an exhibition at Metro Arts, Brisbane in 2008. For this show, McBurnie and Flynn created a collaborative book project, that was exhibited in a side gallery space titled ‘Bloody Mongreal’. The works included were iconoclastic visual narratives, responding to the provocation ‘whether in the digital ago pop can still be considered a legitimate avenue for self expression.’ Much imagery in these works were sourced from posters removed from a billboard near McBurnie’s then home in West End, Brisbane.
